The challenge
The right of withdrawal needs to be easy to exercise directly through the online interface.
A returns policy or a downloadable form alone does not cover the new digital workflow for distance contracts concluded online. The trader needs a visible function, an electronic declaration and an acknowledgement sent without undue delay.
At the same time, the store must identify the request, order and selected products, communicate with the customer and retain a clear history of actions.
Legal basis
What Romanian GEO 18/2026 introduces for contracts concluded online.
GEO 18/2026 introduced Article 11¹ into GEO 34/2014. The provisions governing the online withdrawal function have applied since 19 June 2026.
Clear wording
The label must state unambiguously that the consumer can withdraw from the contract.
Online declaration
The consumer must be able to submit their name, contract identification and electronic confirmation channel.
Separate confirmation
Submission is completed through a separate and clearly labelled withdrawal confirmation action.
Durable acknowledgement
The customer receives the request content together with its submission date and time.
